Himes campaign says Republican is misleading voters
BRIDGEPORT, CT: After using Barack Obama's image in an advertisement, Republican Chris Shays went to the Republican convention and embraced partisan Republican talking points in attacking Obama. Michael Sachse, Jim Himes' Communications Director, released the following statement in response:
"Once again, Chris Shays wants to have it both ways. Chris Shays praised Obama in his own commercial one day, and then uses Republican talking points against him the next. That's not leading, that's misleading."
Background:
Christopher Shays said: "Barack Obama has no record. None. Zero. Zip.... So we're talking about a year and a half of working with one piece of legislation. That's it?" [Andrea Mitchell, MSNBC, 9/4/08, video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PHiKgeaGAg ]
Christopher Shays said: "[Sarah Palin] said, 'Yes, I was the mayor of a small town.' While Barack Obama was a community organizer.... Her record compares more favorably than [Obama's]... I mean, compare records. He has no record. He is great at speeches.... He has no record." [Ray and Diane, WTIC radio, 9/4/08, audio: http://podcast.wtic.com/wtic/1306826.mp3 ]
The Connecticut Post gave a "thumbs down to Rep. Christopher Shays" for his "misleading advertisement" using Barack Obama's image. [Connecticut Post, 8/29/08, http://www.connpost.com/opinion/ci_10337992 ]
