Chris Shays Sides With Bush Against Children’s Health Care, Middle Class Tax Relief
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Friday, March 14, 2008
Stamford, CT—Rep. Christopher Shays (R-CT) voted against the Democratic budget that passed the House today, standing with President Bush to oppose a budget that included funding for the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), middle class tax relief, and investment in jobs, renewable energy, and infrastructure repair. Shays had previously voted in favor of SCHIP.
Affordable housing executive and businessman Jim Himes, the Democratic candidate for Congress in the Fourth Congressional District, made the following comments:
"It’s outrageous to me that Chris Shays would vote against investing in so many urgent priorities for our district - including tax relief for middle class taxpayers and desperately needed funding for children’s health care," said Jim Himes. "These are real votes that have real consequences for families struggling to stay afloat. It’s time for a representative in Congress who will consistently lead on the issues like these that matter to Connecticut families."
"Once again, Chris Shays is always there when you don’t need him," said Maura Keaney, campaign manager for Jim Himes. "By voting against funding for children’s health care today, he’s proven again that when it really matters, he sides with President Bush over the needs of families here in the Fourth District. Voters here are ready for real change and real leadership in Congress, not the same old charade from their Congressman."
