Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) Joins Jim Himes
Campaign for Change

Jim Himes and Debbie Wasserman SchultzWestport, CT—Businessman and non-profit executive Jim Himes, the Democratic
candidate for Congress in Connecticut’s fourth Congressional district, was
joined by special guest Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) for a conversation
with voters in Westport on Monday evening. Rep. Wasserman Schultz and Himes
talked with a packed house of supporters and undecided voters about the importance
of sending a new generation of leadership to Congress who will strongly and
consistently represent the values of Fourth District voters.

"This community deserves a fresh face and a fresh voice representing
them in Congress," said Rep. Wasserman Schultz.  "We have an opportunity
to elect the next generation of leaders and turn this district from red to
blue in November. Jim Himes is a strong voice for Connecticut families who
will fight to bring our troops home from Iraq, fight for affordable healthcare
for American families, and will be a constant and reliable voice in Congress.
We need leaders who will fight for a better tomorrow, not settle for the
status quo. Jim Himes is that candidate."

"I’m so humbled by all of the support I have received in this campaign
and I know that together we can change the direction of our country," said
Jim Himes.  "Families here in our community are already feeling effects
of a serious economic downturn, yet my opponent stubbornly supports George
Bush’s failed economic policies. We need change in Iraq - it’s time we responsibly
and honorably bring our brave soldiers home from Iraq. We need change in
healthcare policy, to make it a real priority to offer affordable healthcare
to all Americans. And most importantly for the families here in Connecticut,
we need a change in leadership. It’s time we have a leader in Congress with
the energy and ideas to directly address these significant new challenges
we face, and who always says what he means and does what he says."

In 2005, Wasserman Schultz became the first Jewish congresswoman ever elected
from the state of Florida. She currently serves as the co-chair of the Democratic
Congressional Campaign Committee’s "Red-to-Blue" program, which
provides support to Democratic challengers nationwide.
