LGBTQ Rights

As a member of the Congressional Equality Caucus, Jim is immensely proud of the progress we’ve made towards ensuring equal rights for the LGBTQ+ community.

Since he was first elected, we’ve seen the end to “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” and the Defense of Marriage Act. We’ve seen the legalization of same sex marriage nationwide, and the Supreme Court has made it clear that Americans cannot be fired due to their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Despite this progress, LGBTQ+ Americans still face dangerous discrimination in health services, housing, and education. And the GOP has continued to ramp up their hateful culture war against the LGBTQ community. This has to stop — which is why Jim co-sponsored and helped pass the Equality Act in the House, and won’t stop fighting until it is signed into law.
