Unions
The Middle Class
Jim feels that unions are the backbone of the middle class, and are vital for the prosperity of the working people of America. With a nation recovering from a devastating pandemic and jobs returning, Jim wants to make a point of making the post-pandemic America a nation with higher wages, better benefits, more worker rights and safer workplaces. It’s more important than ever to support economic justice and good working conditions.
Jim voted for and supports the PRO Act, which would promote and strengthen labor unions. Among other things, the PRO Act prevents employers from holding mandatory meetings, helps those working in the gig economy (Uber and Lyft drivers for example), and has been signed by over 100 labor unions. Furthermore, Jim supports finally raising the federal minimum wage to $15 dollars per hour, something Connecticut has already done. Jim has also received many endorsements from unions, such as the Postal Workers Union, the Social Workers Union, the AFL-CIO (American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations), the Connecticut Education Association, and the AFSCME (American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees) to name a few. The importance of unionization and worker’s rights cannot be overstated.
