Today, the 117th Congress convened for the first time. New and returning members took the oath of office and swore to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. This is the most diverse Congress in history, with the most women serving in history.
Though we are members of different parties, we are one Congress. As one Congress, we face unprecedented challenges ahead. In the words of Speaker Nancy Pelosi, “We accept a responsibility as daunting and as demanding as any that previous generations of leadership have faced.”
This week, we will certify President-Elect Joe Biden’s Electoral College win and put forward a comprehensive and bold legislative agenda to put hardworking individuals and families first. There are malicious efforts in motion to challenge and overturn Biden and Harris’ clear victory. Over 60 lawsuits challenging the election results have failed as Donald Trump, his supporters and members of Congress have claimed — without a shred of evidence — that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris only won because of “voter fraud.”
I take my oath to the Constitution seriously and this Wednesday, I will vote to affirm the results of the 2020 election. The American people voted and chose the Biden-Harris team as our next President and Vice President.
As I’ve stated before, we have a lot of work ahead of us. We need to support struggling Americans and small businesses during the ongoing pandemic, improve vaccine distribution efforts, clean up our elections, pass a plan to combat climate change, restore our reputation abroad, lower health care and prescription drug prices and much more. There are many battles ahead, but with President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris leading us, I believe we will accomplish great things.
It is an honor and a privilege to continue to serve the people of Connecticut’s Fourth District. Thank you again for placing your trust in me.
