We just surpassed a successful 100 days of the Biden Administration, and we are now looking ahead to what comes next. Who comes next.
Our Democratic House and Senate majorities are under attack, and winning this year’s local elections and next year’s midterm elections will require our consistent work and early investments in the next generation of political organizers and leaders. We have to start now.
I’m excited to announce that my campaign is recruiting fellows for Democracy Summer, a project my friend and Maryland Congressman Jamie Raskin has created to train college and high school-aged students as organizers and volunteer activists in Democratic political campaigns. Summer Fellows will simultaneously train as organizers while assisting with my reelection campaign here in Connecticut.
Fellows in this virtual program have learned from the best and brightest political leaders like House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senator Elizabeth Warren and Rep. John Lewis, along with activists, policy experts and community organizers across the country.
The Democracy Summer program includes practical training in the key skills of Democratic campaigning like:
- Field organizing
- Door-to-door canvassing
- Phone banking
- Text banking
- Policy development
- Campaign messaging
- Social media and digital strategy
- Rally and online organizing
- Campaign management
If you know of a young person interested in politics who may be interested, please click here for the application form.
If you don’t know anyone who would be interested in participating but want to support the next generation of leaders, you can sponsor a 2021 Democracy Summer fellow here.
Every donation split between my campaign and Democracy Summer enables more young people to get involved in the political process and directly invests in the success of Democratic candidates and campaigns across the country. When our young people succeed, we will all benefit.
Thank you for your support,
Jim
